Applus+ IDIADA has successfully conducted the first NG eCall certification crash tests in Spain, marking a major milestone in the implementation of the latest amendment to the EU eCall Regulation (EU) 2025/1871. This achievement positions Applus+ IDIADA at the forefront of compliance with the new requirements for Next Generation eCall (NG eCall) systems.
The updated regulation introduces critical changes to ensure eCall systems operate over IMS-based 4G/5G networks, replacing legacy circuit-switched technologies. It mandates compliance with updated standards EN 16072:2025, EN 17184:2024, EN 17240:2024. It also includes provisions for technology-agnostic test methods, backup power supply performance, and readiness for periodic roadworthiness tests.
Key Implementation Dates:
Applus+ IDIADA offers comprehensive NG eCall testing and certification services at both vehicle level and system and component level. At the vehicle level, we conduct full-scale crash tests in compliance with UN Regulations R-94 and R-95, as well as validation of the audio functionality and the Minimum Set of Data (MSD) in simulated 4G/5G environments using R&S® CMX500 5G wireless network emulator.
At the system and component level, Applus+ IDIADA performs functional and performance validation of in-vehicle systems (IVS) and separate technical units (STUs). This includes high-severity deceleration tests, verification of GNSS compatibility and self-test functions, privacy and data protection checks, and backup power supply endurance tests according to the regulation.
As an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, Applus+ IDIADA guarantees the highest standards of reliability and traceability in all homologation and certification processes. The transition to NG eCall is essential for improving emergency response efficiency and future-proofing vehicle safety systems, and Applus+ IDIADA's leadership in NG eCall certification testing in Spain demonstrates our commitment to advancing automotive safety innovation on a global scale.
