In line with Applus IDIADA's continuous aim of extending the scope of engineering support offered to its clients, we have installed a new crosswind simulator facility, which is operative from the beginning of April 2010.
The wind generators have been located at one of IDIADA's dynamic platforms, enabling the effect of an aggressive crosswind on vehicle stability to be assessed, either subjectively or objectively; most importantly though, the crosswind generators provide customers with a real world opportunity to assess their vehicles to the ISO 12021-1 standard, or similar procedures, and to get that final reassurance of conformity.
The facility can be used by our proving ground clients, and also by our vehicle dynamics engineers.
Applus IDIADA's Vehicle Dynamics department, which has a wide expertise in handling measurements and test analysis, will use this facility to benchmark and develop vehicle performance. Using its own state-of-the-art instrumentation and its very own developed analysis software (DynAsoft), which allows complete comparison between the different vehicles or setups, complete analysis of vehicle handling performance can be obtained as a function of vehicle velocity, load, inputs, and other test factors.
As always, to support vehicle chassis engineering, IDIADA offers additional evaluation tools like full vehicle simulation capabilities and chassis characterization methods such as the KnC suspension test rig.
