THOR Project

31/05/2021

The potential inclusion of the THOR dummy in several vehicle safety protocols (such as the Euro NCAP, the ECE R137 and the US NCAP) entails substantial challenges for OEMs and crash test laboratories worldwide.

The use of THOR dummy requires significant adaptations of the Passive Safety systems, the vehicle interior and structure, as well as new procedures to handle a more complex instrumentation and new robust simulation models.

During the development of the THOR Mode project, IDIADA will increase the knowledge on the THOR dummy usage in both physical testing and virtual simulations, enhancing competitiveness in the Vehicle Engineering and Automobile Crash Testing markets. Furthermore, the use of the THOR dummy in several additional federal market load cases (instead of using Hybrid III) will be evaluated using both virtual and physical testing.
