Applus+ IDIADA designated as Technical Service for UN Regulation No. 155 on automotive cybersecurity

22/06/2021

Vehicle manufacturers worldwide can obtain the certification of their Cybersecurity Management System and the approval of their vehicle types through IDIADA’s Homologation area.

Applus+ IDIADA has been officially designated by the Spanish Type-Approval Authority as Technical Service for UN Regulation No. 155, on uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regards to cybersecurity and cybersecurity management system.

This Regulation introduces a new approach to type-approval methodology, including provisions to evaluate the robustness of the measures implemented by manufacturers for the management of cybersecurity-related risks throughout the supply chain, and over vehicles’ entire life-cycle.

In Europe, all vehicles type-approved from 6th July 2022 and all those registered from 7th July 2024, shall be compliant with UN Regulation No. 155. Other regions, such as Japan and Korea, have also announced their intention to implement this Regulation and make it compulsory.

In this context, IDIADA’s extensive experience, with over 25 years as a Technical Service for Type Approval, combined with deep technical know-how in automotive cybersecurity are key aspects to support vehicle manufacturers worldwide.

UN Regulation No. 155 procedures require an early start of the activities between vehicle manufacturers and the Technical Service compared to any other existing UN Regulation. For this reason, IDIADA has been working on the designation process from the first discussions in UNECE Working Groups (including the participation in the Test Phase organized by the Task Force on Cybersecurity and Software Updates).

With this designation, IDIADA emphasizes its commitment to support vehicle manufacturers as a global homologation partner, not only for the vehicles of today, but also for future mobility solutions.
