Remote Ready Move Project

End date: 31/05/2029

Advancing the readiness of remote operation in CCAM services

The Remote Ready Move (RRM) project aims to advance the technical and societal readiness of Remote Operation (RO) within Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) services for both people and goods. The project seeks to build, validate and deploy a technological, economically viable and societally ready framework for Remote Operation, positioning it as a key enabler of future CCAM systems and a complement to the Operational Design Domain (ODD) of automated vehicles.

Funded under the Horizon Europe programme, the project runs from June 2026 to May 2029 and brings together a consortium of 14 partners. Through six Remote Operation pilot sites, the project will evaluate Remote Operation technologies and their role in enabling safe, scalable and societally accepted automated mobility services.

Addressing the challenges of Remote Operation

As automated mobility technologies continue to evolve, Remote Operation is emerging as an important capability to support vehicle operations beyond the limits of automated driving systems. To facilitate its future deployment, RRM addresses technical, safety, societal, regulatory and economic aspects through a comprehensive research and validation programme.

    The project objectives include:

    • Developing a holistic System-of-Systems model for Remote Operation in CCAM
    • Advancing societal readiness through an approach based on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles
    • Developing initial viable technological and societally ready Remote Operation solutions
    • Establishing a comprehensive safety validation and assurance framework
    • Evaluating operational, societal and regulatory aspects using the EU-CEM methodology
    • Assessing the economic viability and scalability of Remote Operation
    • Producing guidelines and policy recommendations to support governance and legislation

    Expected outcomes

The project is expected to deliver key foundations for the future implementation of Remote Operation within CCAM ecosystems, including:

    • A safety validation and assurance framework for Remote Operation
    • Guidelines and policy recommendations for planning and designing Remote Operation in CCAM
    • An updated CCAM roadmap incorporating Remote Operation considerations
    • Evidence-based principles supporting large-scale deployment
    • Contributions to European and international standardization activities, including ISO and UNECE frameworks

    IDIADA's contribution

Applus+ IDIADA plays an active role across several technical work packages, contributing expertise in automated driving, cybersecurity, safety validation and regulatory assessment. The company supports activities related to in-vehicle analysis, Operational Design Domain (ODD) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) evaluation, infrastructure and back-end cybersecurity requirements, and regulatory analysis for Remote Operation systems.

IDIADA also leads key project activities focused on data analysis and safety assurance. These include the coordination of cross-site analysis of data gathered from the six pilot locations to assess the effectiveness and maturity of Remote Operation systems, as well as the development of a comprehensive safety assurance framework and validation methodology for Remote Operation in CCAM environments.

Building on its experience as a Technical Service for type approval, IDIADA contributes to the development of methodologies aligned with existing European and international initiatives while supporting future standardization, policy recommendations and large-scale deployment strategies for Remote Operation.
